TELECOMMUNICATIONS powerhouse Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) has launched a Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), dubbed Wi-Fi Plus, a revolutionary solution that unites fixed and mobile networks into one seamless communication experience.
FMC is a concept that integrates fixed broadband and mobile internet services, allowing users to enjoy seamless internet access anytime and anywhere.
Designed for both home and business, Wi-Fi PLUS ensures fast, reliable internet for all clients’ needs. From streaming to telecommuting, Wi-Fi Plus is a gateway to a connected future.
Speaking at the launch at Thabeng Hotel this week, Econet’s Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Plaatjies, said this innovation marked a bold step in the giant’s mission to drive Lesotho’s digital transformation by delivering reliable, accessible, and integrated services tailored to the dynamic needs of modern consumers across the country.
Mr Plaatjies said this product is part of the country’s transformative connectivity initiatives earmarked to redefine how households and businesses stay connected.
He said that this groundbreaking milestone represents more than just innovation, as it marks a turning point in Lesotho’s digital evolution.
“Econet’s Wi-Fi Plus is not just a product but a fundamental shift in how our esteemed customers connect, communicate, and do business in Lesotho. By merging the power of Econet’s fixed broadband and mobile connectivity, we are unlocking new value for homes, businesses, and underserved communities,” said Mr Plaatjies.
He explained that Wi-Fi Plus is a strategic integration of fixed and mobile technologies that delivers unified voice and data services, and customers stand to benefit from uninterrupted access, greater flexibility, and enhanced convenience, all under one account.
“WI-FI Plus allows us to reach even the most remote communities, giving them access to the same quality of service enjoyed in urban areas. It also streamlines the customer experience by bundling voice, data, and SIM services into one convenient solution. By building on our existing fixed infrastructure, we’re delivering unmatched network reliability and efficiency. This is a pivotal moment in our journey to make digital access truly universal,” he emphasised.
Econet General Manager Sales and Services, Lebohang Ramaisa, said they are rolling out dedicated packages for both Residential and Small, Medium & Micro Enterprises (SMME) customers:
Mr Ramaisa said they offer a residential package which is ideal for families and shared households that can connect up to seven users, each receiving mobile data, On-Net call minutes, and a free SIM card – all under one flexible, shared account.
He added that the Business (SMME) Package is designed for small businesses to connect up to five employees, with each receiving 10GB of data and two hours of On-Net talk time monthly for up to 24 months. Compatible with prepaid SIM cards, this package is tailored for operational ease and scalability.
“This launch is a true testament to Econet’s commitment to inclusive digital access and innovation. By bridging the connectivity divide, Econet is empowering families, entrepreneurs, and communities to thrive in a digitally connected Lesotho,” Mr Ramaisa said.
