PRINCIPAL Secretaries whose contracts were terminated by the Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili-led coalition government last year say they are still awaiting their dues.
Former Government Secretary (GS) Moahloli Mphaka yesterday told the Lesotho Times some of the PSs had only received part payments of their benefits, describing it as “total criminality”.
“This government clearly condones criminality. We still can’t understand what the complication is all about because the formula to come up with the amounts owed to us is very clear and straight forward,” said Mr Mphaka.
“Non-compliance and lack of respect to the laws of any contracts entered into by the government and its people is total criminality.”
The former GS said he last checked whether his colleagues had been paid two weeks ago, adding that three of the former PSs had still not even received part-payment of what was due to them.
“The three include Teboho Mohlomi, who was at the Ministry of Justice, Nonkululeko Zaly who was at the Ministry of Communications and ’Mataeli Sekhantšo (Cabinet-Economic Affairs) had still not received their payments at all,” said Mr Mphaka.
Contacted for comment, both Ms Sekhantšo and Ms Zaly said they were not comfortable discussing the matter on the phone.
For his part, former Principal Secretary for Cabinet Administration Mothabathe Hlalele said he had only received part of his package and was still awaiting his balance.
“This has caused me such inconvenience because I had planned for this money as I have some projects lined up. I still have not received my car since the (termination) contract was clear that I would get it at the residual price,” said Hlalele.
Contacted for comment, Ministry of Finance PS Tom Mpeta’s phone rang unanswered.
